Rent is a rock musical with music, lyrics, and book by Jonathan Larson, which opened on Broadway in 1996. Loosely based on Puccini's opera La Bohème, it follows a group of young artists and musicians struggling with poverty, love, and the AIDS crisis in New York City's East Village. The show won the Pulitzer Prize for Drama and four Tony Awards.
