Karen Carpenter (1950–1983) was an American singer and drummer, one half of the brother-sister pop duo The Carpenters alongside Richard Carpenter. Known for her rich, warm contralto voice, the duo dominated the early 1970s with soft-rock hits like "We've Only Just Begun," "Close to You," and "Superstar." She was also a skilled drummer who performed from behind the kit on stage.
