Shaping the Standard: A World Café to Inform Nevada’s Problem Gambling Screening Policy

Reno

Nevada is developing new standards for screening problem gambling within substance use treatment programs — and your expertise is essential. This interactive World Café session invites providers certified through the Behavioral Health Certifications for Excellence in Nevada (BHCEN), formerly known as SAPTA, to directly influence policy being developed by the Nevada Division of Public and Behavioral Health (DPBH).

Rather than a presentation about future requirements, this session is a structured working forum designed to generate actionable recommendations. Through facilitated, rotating smallgroup discussions, participants will identify practical screening approaches, define realistic implementation expectations, surface resource needs, and clarify what support programs are needed to successfully integrate gambling as a co-occurring condition.

This is an opportunity to help ensure that emerging standards are clinically sound, operationally feasible, and responsive to the realities of treatment settings. The outcomes of this session will be synthesized and directly incorporated into policy and initiate development efforts. If you want a voice in shaping what comes next — this is the room to be in.

Learning Objectives:

Influence Policy Development: Generate concrete recommendations that will directly inform Nevada’s forthcoming problem gambling screening standards.Define Feasible Implementation Models: Identify screening and response practices that are both clinically effective and operationally sustainable within certified programs.Articulate System Support Needs: Establish clear guidance on training, referral infrastructure, and resource requirements necessary for successful statewide implementation.
