Mark Wellman is an American adaptive athlete and motivational speaker who became widely known in 1989 when he became the first paraplegic to climb El Capitan in Yosemite National Park. A spinal cord injury left him paralyzed from the waist down, but he went on to complete other landmark climbs and advocate for people with disabilities. He is a prominent figure in the adaptive sports and outdoor accessibility movement.
