Discovering King Tut's Tomb
King Tut: The Exhibition at Luxor Hotel and Casino, Las Vegas
Discovering King Tut's Tomb is a self-guided, walkthrough immersive exhibition at the Luxor Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, produced by Imagine Exhibitions, Inc. The experience celebrates the centennial of Howard Carter's 1922 discovery of Tutankhamun's tomb in Egypt's Valley of the Kings — the most preserved pharaoh's tomb ever found. Visitors follow Carter's footsteps through a stunning recreation of the burial chambers, peering through the antechamber walls, entering the burial room, and coming face-to-face with the pharaoh's mummy. All artifacts on display are high-quality replicas crafted by Egyptian artisans in the exact tradition of those used in Tut's actual burial chamber, including the nested coffins, sarcophagus, shrines, and the famous death mask. The exhibition also explores the broader world of ancient Egyptian civilization: the significance of the Nile River, the pantheon of gods, the intricate mummification process, hieroglyphs, and the life and legacy of the boy king — who died before age 19 and suffered from a clubfoot, cleft palate, curved spine, and severe immune issues. An audio guide lets guests hear Howard Carter's own account of the moment he first entered the tomb. An optional virtual reality experience allows visitors to explore the tomb's chambers and artifacts in an interactive, first-person perspective, as they were left over 3,000 years ago. The exhibition is located on the atrium level of Luxor and is open daily from 10:00 AM to 8:00 PM, with last admission at 7:00 PM. The experience typically lasts 35–45 minutes. Children under 3 are admitted free when accompanied by an adult.
